2008 UMDF Heartstrings e Stanley A. Davis Leadership Award

La United Malattie mitocondriali Foundation awarded an Atlanta area father e figlia due sulle organization’s tre national volontari awards.   Chris Swinn, of Stone Mountain, Ga., è la prima ever recipient sulle “Stanley A. 2008 LEAP Award 

The UMDF 2008 LEAP AWARD recipient è Therese Garvin.  LEAP,  che sta per Living, Encouraging, Achieving e Persisting, was designato to recognize e individual, 14 anni o older, living positively con a malattie mitocondriali. The award illumina the recipient’s  accomplishments e volontari servizio. Garvin è the Delaware Valley Chapter President. Nonostante her affezioni, she continui essere an inspiration in tutti she does per the Delaware Valley Chapter e la UMDF.

2007 UMDF Heartstrings Award

Questo award was created to recognize un bambino o teen che hanno donated o aumentate funds per la UMDF, abilitando la UMDF to continue its missione. The winner è scelto basato on relativo criteri di età, time invested, talents dimostrato, efficacia e generosity.

Questo anno we hanno due honorees -- sisters Ashley e Brittany Wilkinson. Brittany, la UMDF’s first Youth Ambassador è a courageous giovane lady who doesn’t let the settimane o mesi she spends nella ospedale keep her from lavorando on her fundraising eventi, making calls, dictating letters e talking to everyone who comes entro her room about what she è doing e perché. 2007 UMDF LEAP Award

Questo award was created to recognize una persona living positively con malattie mitocondriali, highlighting the persona’s accomplishments e volontari servizio. The individual should dimostrano a positive attitude, speranza per a brighter futuro e an enthusiasm che inspires altri.

Questo anno’s recipient è Jamieson Smith, a sophomore a Shawnee High School in Medford, New Jersey. Jamie è stata diagnosticata una a malattie mitocondriali in 1999 e ha had molti health struggles dato his diagnosi, ma ogni time he overcomes them con a positive attitude e a unico energia per vita.

Nonostante being hospitalized ogni 21 giorni per IVIG, Jamie è living vita to the fullest. He è coinvolti nella UMDF non solo come a Youth Ambassador, ma anche come a membro sulle Delaware Valley Chapter board. He recentemente testified in support sulle New Jersey Mitocondriale malattia Settimana della consapevolezza legislation. Jamie è anche attive in numerosi scuola e church attività, è una honor student e was Febbraio 2007 Student sulle Month.

2006 UMDF Heartstrings Award

The UMDF 2006 Heartstrings Winner, Hannah Roberts of Cleveland, Ohio, è 14 anni old e ha a malattie mitocondriali.

Over passato anno e metà, Hannah è stato lavorando on a Jewish Holiday Cookbook. The progetto inizia in Parola Therapy – she e her therapist were osservando per nuovi modi to work con Hannah on her linguaggio skills.

Dato Hannah enjoys baking e è attive in her religion, they decided to provare decorating cakes per the differenti Jewish Holidays. Hannah came up con ideas on how to decorate cakes per differenti holidays e poi wrote down direzioni così un'altra persona could create the cake on loro own. The idea grew entro a cookbook – Hannah sold the book to raise consapevolezza riguardo le malattie mitocondriali e dollari per UMDF.

Her progetto took over a anno to put insieme from partenza to finish. Hannah sold tutti of her copies (100) entro a week e a metà – raising $1,000 per UMDF.  Her genitori said on loro nomination forma, “What tugged a us most about questa progetto – it was mai about Hannah. Quando she came up con the idea, it was ‘per aiutare altri like me.”

2006 UMDF LEAP Award

Our 2006 LEAP Winner, Pam Johnson, MD, è the president sulle Kansas City Chapter e newly appointed chapter liaison sulla UMDF Board of Trustees.
